At least 12 people were injured, six of them children, in a shooting near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium on Saturday, during the school's homecoming weekend, authorities said.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell told reporters that no arrests had been made. Police said their investigation remains active.

According to police, the shooting happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday, after the FAMU football game. A preliminary investigation indicates that a fight broke out near the intersection of Perry and Manatee Streets before the gunfire.

Eleven of the victims suffered gunshot wounds, and at least three were seriously hurt, police said. Officials said nine others were reported to be in stable condition.

In a statement, Revell expressed sympathy for those affected. "Tonight, our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they face the devastating impact of this violence," he said. He added that it was "especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured."

Revell also praised the officers who responded. He said that in the moments right after the shooting, and before the scene was fully secure, officers put their own safety at risk to carry victims to safety and take them to the hospital. Their actions, he said, were "nothing short of heroic."

The chief said detectives are working to determine exactly what happened and to identify those responsible. "We remain committed to getting answers for these families," he said, and he asked anyone with information to come forward.

The university said on social media that it is monitoring the situation and that the campus remains safe. Its post also encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Tallahassee Police Department.

The story was still developing as of the original report, and details were subject to change.
